Baked Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders

Got turkey dinner leftovers? Baked Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders are an easy and delicious way to use them up. These leftover turkey sliders make the perfect game day or midnight snack for a hungry crowd.

The next best thing to a holiday turkey dinner are all the tasty leftovers. In our home, it’s tradition to make homemade turkey stock, then turn it into turkey soup. While the leftovers are amazing reheated the next day (and the day after that!), it’s fun to use them up in an entirely new way such as Cheesy Turkey Enchiladas.

Baked Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders

I have to be honest with you. It’s so hard to write this post because these photos are so distracting! I just want to reach into the screen, grab a warm turkey slider, and gobble it up!

There are many ways to use up turkey dinner leftovers but these Baked Turkey Sliders are a crowd pleasing favourite. In this appetizer recipe, the best parts of turkey dinner leftovers (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce) are layered then baked together in between Hawaiian Rolls.

When I say crowd pleasing, I mean the aroma of them baking brings everyone to the kitchen. Then, as soon as these sliders come out of the oven, people get grabby. You might have to slap some hands or they’ll get burnt. Speaking from experience, it’s a good idea to let them cool down slightly before reaching for a roll.

P.S. These Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders go great with a side of football or as a midnight snack after a long evening of gaming. I highly encourage the creation of fun slider recipes, like these mouthwatering Chicken Sliders based on the beloved Italian American classic, Chicken Parmigiana.

Ingredients required to make Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders.

Ingredients

Since these sliders are made with turkey dinner leftovers, they are a requirement for this recipe. However, it is also possible to make them (without the stuffing) by substituting deli turkey slices and canned cranberry sauce.

If you don’t have leftover turkey stuffing and still want to make this slider recipe, here is my family’s favourite Homemade Stuffing Recipe. You can also leave the stuffing out if you prefer.

Adjust the amount of turkey in this recipe according to how much you have leftover. 8 oz is the suggested minimum amount of turkey for this recipe. Make these sliders using sliced turkey breast or dark meat, it’s up to you.

If you use slices of deli turkey, note that it is sliced much thinner than leftover sliced turkey and adjust the amount accordingly.

We always have leftover cranberry sauce. It makes a delicious condiment for these sliders when you mix it with Dijon mustard. I highly recommend you don’t skip it!

The tops of the rolls are slathered with butter, dried onion flakes, Worcestershire sauce and poppy seeds before baking. This mixture keeps the tops of the rolls from drying out and adds extra flavour to the sliders.

Other ingredient options include leftover cooked chicken or ham, mayonnaise, leftover carrots or green bean casserole, and sliced or shredded cheese. Try Havarti, Provolone Cheese, or Swiss Cheese to make them into turkey and cheese sliders.

What Are Hawaiian Rolls?

Hawaiian Rolls aren’t your average everyday bread roll or tray bun. They are a rich brioche-style roll with a tender, fluffy interior and a distinct flaky exterior. What sets them apart from regular buns is their distinct sweetness and the addition of potato flour.

The most well known brand of Hawaiian Rolls are King’s Hawaiian Rolls. What began as a small 1950’s Portuguese sweet bread bakery in Hilo, HI. became a bread roll empire with a huge cult following. It’s amazing to me that I can even buy them here in Canada!

You might be wondering if it is necessary to make these sliders on Hawaiian Rolls? You can use other tray buns or bread rolls for this recipe. However, I highly encourage making them on Hawaiian Rolls at least once, just because they are so special and unique.

How to Make Baked Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders

You’re going to love how easy this baked turkey slider recipe is…most of the work is already done for you! Best of all this easy appetizer recipe is ready in 30 minutes.

To begin, preheat the oven to 350 F. Carefully slice the rolls in half so that the rolls remain attached together. Place the bottom halves in a 9 x 13 baking dish. Next, arrange the leftover stuffing in an even layer over the bottom roll halves, then layer the turkey slices over the stuffing.

In a small bowl, mix half of the Dijon mustard (1 1/2 teaspoons) into the cranberry sauce. Spread the cranberry mustard mixture over the turkey layer. Cover the sliders with the Hawaiian roll tops.

To make the buttery topping, melt butter in a small bowl. Mix in the remaining Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and onion flakes into the melted butter. Spoon the butter mixture over the rolls then scatter the poppy seeds over the unbaked sliders.

Bake for 15 minutes, or until tops have browned slightly. Keep a close eye so they do not brown too much. Let cool slightly, separate, and serve warm.

Store any leftover Hawaiian Roll Turkey Sliders in the fridge and eat within 2-3 days.

Oh, excellent! Yes, if you buy deli ham and a can of cranberry sauce half of the work is already done for you.

Ok, Bernice, what the heck. These are amazing. I mean, I’m always interested to see new ways to do leftover turkey, but these are the kind of awesome recipe that has the potential to steal the show from the turkey dinner itself. The flavours are wonderfully thought out – and that dijon-onion topping? That’s so cool! I had no idea you could do something like that, and now my head is swimming with ideas. Amazing recipe – thanks so much for sharing it with us!!

These turkey rolls are so delicious! I just happened to have leftover turkey on hand (you know why!) so I pulled these together for dinner. I loved how easily they came together (how genius is it to simply separate 12 buns and reassemble them in a pan!) and how they were so quick to portion out when they came out of the oven. I got complaints there weren’t enough so maybe I’ll double the recipe next time 😉

I love this combo! Sadly we didn’t have those rolls here in the U.K. so I used brioche hot dog rolls cut in half and they were great!
